easy vegan chocolate bundt cake

We started Christmas shopping this weekend.
We even set the alarm early on saturday morning
so we could get to town before the rain and the rugby.
It made me feel quite Christmassy...
as well as gifts for other people, I also got a bundt cake pan and a few
other goodies from the kitchen shop
(one of which was a sugar shaker which I used to sift the sugar on top of my cake - amazing!)

So, I was pretty excited to make a bundt cake.
My parents are coming to dinner in a couple of weeks - it happens to fall on the winter solstice so I thought it should be a bit festive.
I didn't want to try out my bundt cake on them though - you have to test it first right??

I used this recipe from Joy the Baker and it was so easy!
I have no idea how this cake tastes but I love how it looks.

oh, I really wanted a bundt pan that had trees on it like this.....
but it was three times the price of  a plain pan....
sigh.
linking up with Lakota's ta-dah tuesday because am feeling pretty ta-dahy about my cake.

thanksgiving

we have a lot to be thankful for this year.
so we had thanksgiving dinner... even though people in the UK don't go in for thanksgiving as a rule.
we had roasted potatoes with rosemary and garlic....

vegan chicken and sweetcorn pie, and sauted cabbage with chick peas.
and prosecco.

and I printed off a bunch of dinner table questions so that we wouldn't run out of chat.
unfortunately I printed the questions off from a slightly religious kids website so we had
lots of questions about school and jesus.
it added to the fun.
after dinner I got to pick a film to watch so I picked Julie and Julia.
I usually cry at the end when she takes butter to the museum, but today I cried
much earlier on in the movie....
happy thanksgiving to you all.

on the road

we are going to see the movie 'On the Road' tomorrow.
Have you seen it?
Is it awful?
maybe it's great?
we love Kerouac in our house, It's been a few years since I've read 'On the Road',
and I've bought the original scroll version too, but am yet to read it.
My favourite Kerouac book is 'The Dharma Bums' and my favourite Beat  is Gary Snyder
... Just in case you're interested.

Halloween... (a little late)

Halloween was busy for me as it falls in a school holiday when I run art activities and we also had Halloween Nights at work so this picture is of me just when I got home at about 9.30 at night after being at work since 9am. I've got rained on too after watching the wicker man being set on fire...
I am dressed as little dead riding hood.
You can't really see much of the outfit here, but it had a long black skirt with a skull shaped apron and a corset thing on top with a red cape. It was not super comfortable.

We did have a Halloween dinner the weekend before Halloween....
we had vegan chicken and sweetcorn pie which had a little halloweeny face.

After I'd made the pie I realised that the pie tin provided ears! aw.

we ate it with stwmp naw rhyw (which I wrote about last year right here)
It's hard to take a good picture of mash....

we washed it all down with Hobgoblin unofficial Halloween beer.
yum.
we didn't have time to even carve our pumpkins! or watch our halloween movies!
wah. we'll do it another time instead.

(I'm linking up with wooooo wednesday too)

favourite things

these are some things i've come across over the last couple of days... some of them are pretty, some of them I might just have to have and some things are funny.

look at this cushion! it's so beautiful and reminds me a bit of Hockney's dog paintings.
You can buy it here although at £159.00 it's a little out of my league.

this is Vivienne Westwood's house, doesn't it look gorgeous and cosy?
she says it's full of books too. ah viv.
I read about it here

i do like this bed linen and may have to buy it.
it's from ikea and comes in this brown colourway or in purple.

Roger Clarke was being interviewed on the radio the other morning when I was driving to work and his book sounds fascinating.
He talked about how the middle classes generally don't believe in ghosts - it's mainly the working classes or the upper classes who do.... he also talked about how in Victorian times ghosts were usually dressed in black (in the fashion of the period), whereas now they are usually seen dressed in white (or at least I think that's what he said, I was on my work to work and I was sleepy).
I definitely want to read this.

I went Urban Decay make up shopping the other day and somehow got into an awkward makeover situation which led to me spending A LOT on make up.
I did get this foundation though which is AMAZING.....
(and I also got six eyeliners and lipgloss)

Lakota took part in a retro cook off and made cod in custard....
her blog post about making it made me laugh out loud.

that's it for now - I have a day off and am staying in my pjs, reading a Daniel Handler book and watching the food network. that is all.

books read in october...

well, october has been a bit excessive reading wise...
am not sure how this happened.
my favourites were the Vali Myers biography, The Replacement (which was a teen fairy kinda thing), Knitting for Good and Chi's Sweet Home (of course! these books are the cutest).
Every year Bert and I agree to read a classic (which we class as anything over a hundred years old). Bert reads his sometime around spring (and probably more than one) whereas I forget about the whole thing and start to panic round about October. So, Candide was picked because it was quite short and because Rory read it on Gilmore Girls. I didn't like it, it was quite the romp and i'm not the rompy sort. I feel bad (and an idiot) for not liking Candide... but the Chris Ware cover is great.
are you reading anything good?x
