new camera phone means three photos of lunch

my new phone has a pretty cute camera on it. so get ready for lots of photos...
I drank lots of green tea today.
I was watching Anna Olsen on the cooking channel today. the theme tune to her cooking show which makes no sense ('imagination running free' is the main refrain) is also insanely catchy.
anyway she prepared tomatoes this way to put in a pie.
I just ate them as they were.
It's pretty simple but really delicious - chopped up tomatoes and a thinly sliced shallot which are then covered with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. You then leave them to soak up all the juices for a while.
just before eating I added fresh basil. It tasted so good.

recent stuff....

shirley temple's for reading group!
you can add a dash of rum for a Shirley Temple-Black
but not if you are part of dry january like me.
made cinnamon buns for a lovely work friend who's leaving for a new job.
Having tea out with bert at the new and pretty Barker Tea House
(actually I had a chai soy latte - delish)
I look a bit sleepy here....
bert looks handsome as usual though...
I finished this crochet blanket a little while ago. It is big enough for two to snuggle under and watch kojak...
the colours are actually brighter than this picture suggests. A super bright orange and a sunshiny yellow.
another lovely friend got me a subscription to Garageland for Christmas!
I am super lucky.
how's your day going?

crochet morning

we had a crochet morning in work yesterday.
A lovely lady and wonderful crocheter called Anna came along to help run the session with me.
All of the things in the pictures are made by her, other than my orange/yellow blankie which is sneaking a peak out

it's a new year! eat rice!

Hey!
Happy new year!
This is what we ate on New Years Eve.
I read somewhere that rice is a good luck food to eat on new years eve, and apparently lentils are good luck to eat on new year in Italy.
and I feel that I am pretty much Italian these days. ;)
So I cooked up a rice dish using rice (basmati and wild), peas, puy lentils, onion and pepper. I also marinated some tofu in maple syrup, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, olive oil and salt and pepper, and fried that separately and added it at the end.

magically lentils are meant to bring peace, energy, tranquility and harmony.
rice brings fertility, abundance, security, prosperity, wealth, treasure and protection
salt gives protection
tofu brings psychic awareness
the red pepper brings prosperity, security, strength, energy and comfort
garlic protects and heals and gives courage and inspiration!
ginger always feels really magical to me! it gives energy, success, power, money, prosperity, health and love
maple syrup tastes delicious and brings love, longevity, luck and wealth
onion protects too.
oh and peas bring luck and prosperity (like any green foody things i think).

I also had some wine and I think we all know that's magic too.
